Twitter usually fuels the subjects I blog about. Today was no different. Today, class, we are going to come clean on the subject of tattoos.
While poking around on iGeektrooper.com I came across the most awesome cookies ever, made by @geeksweettweets. While reading the Geek Sweets Blog I ran into these sweet freaking Irish Whiskey cupcakes which then lead me to mocupcakes.com. There I saw hamburger cupcakes and immediately tweeted at my internet crush •GEEK•LEE•TIST• that him and I needed matching hamburger cupcake ink. From there the ball was rolling and I have been talking ink with people all day. However, I have also dealt with some punks on the subject...
Let me make it very clear that this is NOT a rant blog. Just prefacing my next paragraph...
The Dms started rolling in...WHY would you get a hamburger tattoo? Are you crazy? Why would you get a matching tattoo with an internet crush? How could you do this to your body? AHHH!
blink blink
I then took a nap.
After waking up, I find that my good 'net friends are STILL talking about ink! This pleases me. I enjoy my friends on the internet. However, DM haters are always gonna hate.
I have A LOT of tattoos. I post a fair amount of them in this flicker album. (#vain) Though I haven’t updated these pictures for almost a year...You will see that I do indeed have some random tattoos.
Why? Shouldn't something you put on your body have some grand, epic, undying meaning? Shouldn’t it have years of thought behind it? For some people, yes. For me, no.
I put on my body what inspires me at that time in my life. I enjoy living in the moment. When I look at my tattoos I see page markers. Things that make me smile.
In 2010, most of my ink was Star Trek related. I spent that entire year of my life watching every single episode of Star Trek with my husband and kids. (TOS to DS9, in order, as most of you already know. #BraggingRights) Hours and hours of my life spent falling in love all over again with Star Trek and watching my babies experience all of that Trek, for the very first time, with wide eyes. In twenty years when I see that ink I will think, hot damn, what a great year.
When I got the tattoos, they were VERY spontaneous. Usually when I have an idea, I have it put on me with in 48 hrs. Thank goodness I (now) have an amazing artist who thinks the way I think.
From safety pops on my shoulder to a six inch hello kitty on my chest to confessing my love for Boba Fett, everything on my body has been very spontaneous, but that is how I live. Joy inducing tattoos are not any less valid to me.♥
I do have the most 80's metal dragon on my leg and sigh yes, I have flames on my arm... THAT was an interesting year...

Oh man!! Well...here is the thing. I will not ever put anything but nerd or joke tattoos on my body ever again. Meaningful...generally in my life turn out...in the end to be horrible. I like Kylee am covered in tattoos from panthers to unicorns and even a stinkin corndog. The idea of getting a matchy tattoo with Kylee thrills me to no end. You're better off getting something that you love than something you think you love and a tattoo of a hamburger cupcake that matches Kylee's would be something that I would remember for the rest of my life.
Thanks for the link! Also, I'm in looooooove with your Boba Fett tattoo.
Dragon and Tiger on left arm. Three Koi fish on right arm. Done in the Japanese style. Not sure about what else I will have done - but I know I'm not finished yet! :-)
Love it! I'm not brave enough for random ink, but I respect it. My first tat was on my 27th birthday, just a simple black G-clef on my left shoulder. Music makes me happy. On my 28th birthday, I got the G-clef touched up and added a red rose, cuz roses are pretty. 29th birthday was right after I got married, so I got a new one on my right shoulder: sword with wings and a heart with our initials and wedding date. I LOVE THAT TAT.

I think I'd like to do a fairy when I hit my weight loss goal, but I'm so digging the idea of a Twitter-wide matchy tattoo. ;)
I have a full sleeve on my left arm (koi, waterfall, dragon/koi fish thing, turtle, cherry blossom, etc) and a rocket on my right arm seen here upside down.
I want more random tattoos, more space/sci fi stuff on my right arm, some Icarus/Da Vinci thing on my back, some chest piece, a galleon on a leg somewhere... so much.
All of my tattoos have been steps in my life, and always will be. Not necessarily random, but I do get tattoos that will always remind me of the time that I was in.
I have 3 faeries. A huge one on my back, one right ...wait....left? hip. Shit, I can't remember what side that one is on! It's on the back, and I was supposed to get a matching one (dark and light, good and evil sides of me), but I never got it done. So it's lonely. And my third one is on my left leg, meant to represent my little sister (she's getting one in the same place to represent me, and paying to get mine touched up and finished). Up on my left shoulder blade, I have the World of Warcraft Horde emblem to remind me of years wasted on this game. On both my inner wrists I have the Japanese kanji's for "good" and "evil" (zen and aku).
I want more, so much more. I can't even say the ideas I have. But I can't afford it most of the time. That's mostly why I have so many piercings....
I'm a big nerd, so all I have right now are videogame tattoos. :P I have the Archadian seal from Final Fantasy XII on my left calf (about a foot tall - it was my first one, too! I decided to just jump right in, hahaha: pic), Link from A Link to the Past, 8-bit on my left forearm (pic), and Kirby riding a shooting star on my right (pic). It needs a touchup badly, but noooo, I had to become infested by a tiny invader in my belly. :P
I'm not sure what my plans are other than my right arm - to accompany the Kirby I want a space scene with a bunch of different Kirbies interacting and riding on shooting stars, with a bunch of planets and nebulas and stuff as well. I'm way excited. Other than that I have no plans, but I can't wait 'til I can get it worked on!
(In other news, I love your X-Files tattoo, that there's a peek of in the photo of the ones on your shoulder. :D )
My MO for choosing a tattoo is: think of something I really really REALLY want... then wait a year or so and see if I still want it. It's served me very well so far. My only tattoos are the two martial arts that I have black belts in on my thigh (obviously shaped me as a person) and my stylized basketball on the back of my calf (reshaped me quite literally into 70 lbs less of a person). My next one has been in the works for 10 months, so it's time to take the leap :)
I have a couple generics I picked out at the tattoo shop, but I have wanted more for a long time and have them be a bit more personal.
I have the benefit of getting free tattoos because my darling boyfriend is a tattoo artist.
He says the same thing about his tattoos that you say... that he'll never regret them because they allow him to remember the memorable parts of his life.
As for myself, I have quite a bit of skin covered... and I seem to have an affinity for foliage. Lilies down my back, vines on my leg, flowers on my forearms.
I'm still in search of the perfect geeky tattoo as I'm very particular about what I put on my body and want to make sure that it is the most epic of epics. ;)
That's all. Rambling comments...
I just visited your flicker album. You have great tattoos! Very nice art. :-D
